Impact Evaluation: Finding What Works – Week 9

Dave Holmes is Programs Manager at Candid’s Midwest office, coordinating the training, reference, and research services for the Midwest region. He returned to the Foundation Center (now Candid) in 2015 from a position as Senior Consultant at Grants Plus, writing grants and doing research for a variety of large and small nonprofit clients. In his initial nine-year tenure with Foundation Center, Dave served in various roles including Regional Training Specialist, Interim Director of Foundation Center – Cleveland, and Director of Capacity and Leadership Development.

Earlier in his career, Dave served as a Program Officer for the Stocker Foundation in Lorain, Ohio, and as the Director of Grants and Prospect Research at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. He is a current board member of Joel’s Place for Children and Upcycle Parts Shop and a former board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Cleveland Chapter and of Joyful Noise Music School. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, an MA from Villanova University, and an MLIS from Kent State University.

effective marketing communications and public relations campaigns to assist
businesses in communicating their messages to key audiences.
Her award-winning gift and team of creative energies has resulted in more
money in pockets, butts in seats and life transformations.

Dennis R. Kuhn

Mr. Kuhn obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration from The Ohio State University with a major in Risk Management and a minor in Finance. He began his Risk Management career with Picker International in Cleveland, Ohio. His initial position was Insurance Manager and in two years he was named the Risk Manager for the GEC company’s North American operations. His next Risk Management position was the Risk Manager for Burroughs Wellcome of Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. He was responsible for all of The Wellcome Group’s activities in North America, Mexico, and Caribbean operations. Working with The Wellcome Group he established a captive insurance company to handle the company’s unique risks.  Next Mr. Kuhn was named the Risk Manager for Glaxo Wellcome pharmaceutical company-the combination of The Wellcome Group and Glaxo pharmaceutical companies.  While at Glaxo Wellcome he helped capitalize a captive insurance company which would insure the pharmaceutical industries global product liability risks. When Glaxo Wellcome was merged with SmithKline Beacham pharmaceutical companies he was named the Risk Manager for the company’s North American and Caribbean operations.  Mr. Kuhn helped establish a captive insurance company for the new company and served as a Board Member for 10 years. For the past 9 years, Mr. Kuhn has worked with Dr. Victor Bull doing risk assessments and overseeing risk management for various projects.

Vilma Seeberg

Vilma Seeberg, Ph.D., joined the CLI Board in August, 2019.

She is an internationally known scholar in the field of international/multicultural education, Associate Professor Emerita at Kent State University, Ohio.

Dr. Seeberg started her career as a K-12 educator, co-founded and led a nonprofit “street academy” (501.c.3) for public school dropouts for 10 years in Wisconsin. She earned her PhD in 1990 at Hamburg University, Germany, in comparative education policy, has published books, articles, and chapters on educational empowerment of historically disempowered communities in the U.S. and in China. In 2021, Routledge published Family Engagement in Black Students’ Academic Success, Resistance and Achievement in an American Suburban School, an innovative 20-year study exploring Black American education lead by Dr. Seeberg.

After adopting her daughter from a Chinese village, Dr. Seeberg founded the Guanlan Scholarship Foundation, a 501.c.3 organization that in partnership with a Chinese local non-governmental organization provides scholarships to poor village girls in remote western China. She and her family live in Cleveland, OH.

Linda Peavy is the owner of LiPav Consulting, LLC, a marketing, grant writing, and communications firm.

With over 21 years of marketing experience, Linda has developed marketing campaigns and collateral for special events, plays, educational programs, musical events, schools, authors, religious leaders, conventions, and major conferences across the country.

As a non-profit consultant, she has provided services for more than six denominations and numerous organizations. Through her grant writing services, Linda has worked with the largest foundations in the region as well as governmental entities. She secured funding and business development over $17,000,000 for non-profit organizations. Additionally, Linda consults with foundations to provide seamless grant administration. She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the American Grant Writing Association.
